Polokwane Local Municipality

The Polokwane Local Municipality appointed Masetlaoka Scott Wilson (MSW) to provide cost effective engineering solution to a supply water challenge to about 36 rural villages sitting on over 700 square kilometer area. The project area is 30 Kilometers north east of Polokwane central business district, between roads R81 and R71. The project is named Sebayeng/Dikgale Regional Water Project.

A study of ground investigations revealed the area to have low underground water potential and low annual rainfall. Boreholes in the area dry up due to low replenishment rates therefore water has to be brought from the most cost effective source which turned out to be the Ebenezer Dam.

The objectives of the project are to provide a long term, sustainable, reliable and safe portable water supply to about 36 rural villages made up by a population of about 93 452 people. The socioeconomic benefits from the project include about 50 temporary jobs in a duration of 4 years as well as about 15 permanent jobs for operating and maintaining the infrastructure. The health of the residents shall be improved due to safe and reliable water supply. Immovable property value shall increase and the land will be available for manufacturing due to availability of water leading to creation of jobs.

MSW’s role as the Polokwane Local  Municipality’s implementing agent entails sourcing of the funding from the relevant government project funders. The measure of various engineering solutions in terms of value for money for the current and future requirement for the project area. As well as planning, detailed design and construction monitoring of the infrastructure delivery.

The construction phase also includes rolling out of training initiatives and ensuring maximization of both job creation, workmanship and materials quality.
